What are Organic, Amber or Orange wines & Biodynamic Agriculture?

Organic or Natural

The Organic or Natural wine is the one which is being harvested from the earth with a maximal respect to the land, no chemical or harmful product is being used in the process in order to protect the environment we are living in, the biodynamic agriculture can also be used in some cases. Up to 20gr/Hl of sulfites can be added in Organic wines and up to 5gr/Hl for the Natural ones; There are also some Natural wines that don’t have any sulfites added at all, they aren’t filtered, nor clarified and above all they have a natural fermentation with grapes that are being grown in an organic way.  In summary those wines are much more alive, full of expression and healthier.

Amber or Orange

An Amber or Orange wine is a white wine made like a red wine, where you use the skin and the pips during the fermentation process, that’s how the wine gets its wonderful color. They can ferment for days or even months. They are a great introduction to natural wines, because they’re so different. You have no point of reference, so you don’t know what they “should” taste like. It forces you to keep an open mind. A great discovery that began more than 8,000 years ago in Georgia.

Biodynamic Agriculture

Biodynamic agriculture is a method of ecological agriculture based in the theories of Rudolf Steiner, founder of anthroposophy. This type of agriculture considers farms/cellars as complex organisms, emphasizing the interrelation between soils, plants and animals, treating the whole as a single system, avoiding as far as possible external interventions and taking into account the loss of nutrients due to the output of crops and other products outside the farm. As in other forms of organic farming, the use of fertilizers, pesticides and industrial herbicides is avoided. Biodynamic agriculture differs from other types of organic farming in the use of vegetable and mineral preparations as additives for compost and aerosols for the land, as well as in the follow-up of a sowing calendar based on the lunar movement and the stars.
